Arlon Faralor

Der erste Charakter, der den Umzug aus dem Bilderbereich geschafft hat. Arlon sehe ich als typischen Waldläufer. Er könnte auf Grund seiner Gesinnung z.B. den Spielern aus einer schwierigen Situation helfen oder selbst Hilfe benötigen.
Mein vorgeschlagener Hintergrund soll es dem Spielleiter einerseits erleichtern schnell einen Waldläufer ins Spiel einzufügen, könnte andererseits aber auch als Abenteuerinspiration selbst dienen.

Arlon was born in the frontier village of Northwood. This by a wooden palisade protected settlement laid at the bottom of the uncivilised Great Greenvalley Mountains. His father Beron, a famous but now old commander, had been sent out to defend this new built outpost before Arlon was born. He commands a unit of 30 warriors.
Although the region is quite dangerous and many wild animals and beasts lurk in the dark forests nearby, the wise leadership of Beron made Northwood a save trading post for hunters and over years held the losses under his men as low as possible.
Arlon hat two brothers, who were born before his parents came to Northwood. They both followed the family tradition, learned fighting and tried to take up a military career. This gave Arlon the opportunity to choose a different fate. After some basic fighting training by his father he decided to save the local priest of the befriended Pelor temple in Northwood at the age of ten.

Already a young age Arlon felt much sympathy for the wounded strangers, who often came to Northwood and asked for treatment at the Pelor temple. In contrast to all other children in the village he was brave enough to help priest Larondos to care for even the worst injuries and wounds.
During his clerical education he discovered his interest for herbals and nature and he was confirmed in his faith in Pelor. He believes that he once directly witnessed Pelor's power, when a mother, who had been close to death after a difficult birth, quickly recovered after a night, when he saw the candle besides her bed suddenly starting to glow as bright as sunlight for a few moments.
After a few years he already had great skill in determining which animals caused which injury and which herbal helps most against a certain poison.

Arlons brothers never really appreciated his work, but respected his decision. Although his father would have been happier to see Arlon in an official military armour, he wasn't to unsatisfied with Arlon wanting to become a cleric, as the family always felt connected to Pelor and he knew about the importance of Arlons tasks for military forces.
Arlon matured to an abstemious, responsible young man, who nevertheless didn't loose his family pride and sense of honour.

When Arlon became 18, he and Larondos set out for a pilgrimage to the Sunshield Sanctuary in Enweristone. Trusting in Pelor's mercy they went alone. On their way back they rested as so often at a glad near the road. They hadn't even put down their bedrolls, as suddenly an ankheg charged out of the ground in a fountain of earth and grabbed Larondos. Arlon couldn't do anything, as he only had his quarterstaff with him and wasn't trained in reacting so quickly. Covered with dirt from the ankheg attack Arlon ran away.
He felt guilty, powerless, weak and broken in his honour. He lost his teacher and friend. He was afraid to go home, as he strongly disappointed his father and brought shame to his family by not having been able to rescue the priest.
After a few horrible days alone in the woods, Arlon realized that he had to find a new way of living. He couldn't return to any near settlements, because people there would recognize him as the son of Beron.

Arlon tried to survive in the forests. A lot of luck and his friend, the elven druid Il'isal, who he met deep in the forest of Tam'kuor, helped him to get through the first years. Never having seen his family again he began to accept his new home. Not being able to deny his nature and past completely Arlon found a new sense of live in helping travellers through the wilderness.
